In this short segment, the issues of social justice and gender equity are placed in a setting and context that is relatable for children. It follows the story of Fara, a Haitian girl who wants to join her neighborhood soccer team. After a season of intensive training to join the team, she is passed over by her less talented cousin Tilou, who is nevertheless favored by the coach. To find a clever solution, Fara’s friends collaborate and discover an accidentally filmed video of her footwork. They use it to convince the coach that he is being unfair. Soccer is a huge passion in Haiti, but formal participation is predominantly male. This segment produced by Blue Butterfly Collaborative/TSNE with the support of Fokal Haiti illustrates constructive action for social change.
